What You’ll Find on GoBayArea

Hey Bay Area! GoBayArea is built to answer one question: what should we do this weekend? We don’t try to list every single thing happening. We focus on the events you’d actually plan a day or night around, across every region of The Bay.

What we list

  • Festivals, fairs and street events. Cultural celebrations, art and wine festivals, parades, open streets and night markets.

  • Seasonal and holiday happenings. Pumpkin patches, Halloween events, Día de los Muertos, Diwali, tree and menorah lightings, holiday light displays, holiday markets, New Year’s Eve and Lunar New Year.

  • Theater, dance and opera runs. Touring Broadway shows, ballet, opera and productions by local professional companies, listed once with their full run of dates.

  • Holiday shows. Nutcrackers, holiday concerts and films screened with a live orchestra.

  • Family shows and kids’ events. Touring family shows, museum days and community events for little ones.

  • Farmers markets and recurring favorites. Farmers markets, flea markets and First Fridays are the kind of thing you come back to, so they’re here too.

  • Sports, the fun way. One listing per team with a link to its schedule, plus heritage, cultural and Pride nights. For college teams, we list the home opener, plus the Big Game.

Where to Catch a Show

Big venues book dozens of shows a month, and listing a few would only give you part of the picture. So concert halls, theaters, clubs, amphitheaters and arenas, and college theaters each get a card on our Where to Catch a Showpage. Filter by region or type, and each card links to the venue’s own calendar so you can see who’s playing. Holiday shows and one-of-a-kind events at those venues still get their own listings on the main feed.

What we leave out

Weekly bar lineups, open mics, cover bands, trivia nights and regular programming that happens every week. We also don’t list student productions individually, but you’ll find the college theaters on Where to Catch a Show. They’re all great, but they’d bury the big stuff.

A few things to know

  • Every listing links to the organizer. We always send you to the people running the event, so you get the latest times, prices and tickets straight from the source.

  • Filters mean what they say. Labels like “Free,” “Family friendly” and “Outdoor” help you narrow things down. We only mark an event “Free” or “Accessible” when the organizer says so.

  • “Dates coming soon” means it’s coming. When an annual event hasn’t posted this year’s dates yet, we list it once the organizer confirms it’s happening.

  • Plans change. Dates and details can shift, so give the organizer’s page a quick look before you head out.
